Sleeplessness

Bible Verses for Sleep & Restless Nights

It is late, the house is quiet, and your mind is not. You came here at the hour when nobody else is awake.

Scroll gently

Breathe in

Dim your screen. Read one verse, close your eyes, and let it settle before the next.

Today’s verse for sleeplessness

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8

Read the rest slowly

1 / 6

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8

Safety is the reason sleep is possible. Someone is awake over you.

2 / 6

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
Psalm 121:3-4

You do not have to keep watch tonight. That post is already filled.

3 / 6

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Proverbs 3:24

4 / 6

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
Psalm 127:2

Rest is not laziness. It is given, like a gift, to the beloved.

5 / 6

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

The invitation is for the tired, not the impressive.

6 / 6

When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
Psalm 63:6

If you are going to lie awake thinking, give the thinking a better subject.

A word from Pastor Stan

Some nights your body is tired but your mind is still on duty. Try this: put the phone across the room, read Psalm 4:8 out loud twice, and then repeat one line of it slowly while you breathe out. Not as a technique to earn sleep, but as a way of handing back the watch. God is awake anyway. There is no reason for both of you to be.

Pray this, as it is

Lord, You never sleep, so I can. Take the list I keep replaying. Quiet my body, quiet my thoughts, and give Your beloved sleep tonight. Amen.
